Stop PG&E from destroying California sea life!

diablocanyon_wikicommons.jpgDon’t let PG&E gut the state’s water and marine protection policy at Diablo Canyon!

Due to the disastrous impact on California coastal businesses from continued “once through cooling” (OTC) operations at the Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant, the World Business Academy is asking the business community to demand that Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) comply with State Water Resources Control Board regulations requiring that PG&E build cooling towers at Diablo Canyon.

Diablo Canyon’s outdated OTC system draws an estimated 2.5 billion gallons of water per day and discharges that water back into the ocean 20 degrees hotter, killing more than a billion young fish and other species every year. As Diablo Canyon is responsible for nearly 80% of OTC ocean water withdrawals in California, to exempt Diablo Canyon would gut the State’s policy to ban OTC and require cooling towers.

Please sign this letter to the Water Board requesting that they require PG&E to comply with the law!

For more background on this issue, read the Academy's overview. Thank you for taking action to protect California's economic and environmental health.
